What to Report
When activated, report:
- Tornado or funnel cloud sightings
- Wall clouds
- Rotation
- Hail (Any Size)
- Rainfall (1" or more per hour)
- Damaging winds (58MPH or Greater)
- Flooding
- Damage due to severe weather
How to Report
- Listen before transmitting — don't step on other traffic
- Keep reports brief and factual
- Include your location — use landmarks, road intersections, or GPS coordinates
- Report what YOU observe — not what you heard elsewhere
Example Report Format
"Net Control, this is [CALLSIGN]. I'm at [LOCATION]. I'm observing [WEATHER CONDITION] and the time of this observation was [TIME OF OBSERVATION]."
SKYWARN Training
SKYWARN spotter training classes are offered periodically by the National Weather Service. These free classes teach you how to identify severe weather features and how to report them effectively.
