March 2026 Meeting Minutes

Roll call: 27 members in attendance

Officer Reports

President Mike Elkins: The club license runs out in April but will be renewed. The renewal will be under David or Kevin depending on whether they do the renewal or the modification first. A $35 fee will be paid. Tax status may have to be changed and the club will need to change where taxes are done.

Treasurer Alicia Parham: The treasurer's report was read and passed. 26 current members, 4 life members.

Secretary Chan Patrick: Corrections or additions, passed. Old motions: Kevin D. Cornwell KG4EHH was nominated as trustee, motion passed. A committee was formed to help monitor the repeaters — Reed, David, Thomas, and Caleb were put on the committee and Kevin will be in charge.

VP Bobby Murphy:

• Hamfest (July 18th): Jim Gifford is coming, Diamond Antennas are coming, TN07 is coming, and Wireman may not make it. Setup will be Friday from 4–6pm the day before. Still waiting to coordinate with janitorial staff to see what can be used. Signs — will need 20, possibly on the marquee at the regional park, with yard-sale-style directional signs. Two signs will be back-to-back. Need someone in charge of parking. Signs cost $25 each standard, 2 at $35 — motion made to purchase signs, motion passed, could have them by next day.
• Atlanta Radio Club: Shared a flier noting they use the same 146.820 repeater and confirmed we do not interfere with their repeaters even though we are on the same frequency.
• Upcoming Events: Moofest and Pumpkin Town are coming up.

New Business

• Skywarn / Light Up the Hiwassee River: Last Saturday in March — will be using APRS 146.490 simplex.
• Advertising: ARRL would be a great place to advertise and would be seen by several states. Possible discussion next meeting about advertising options, including Comcast and morning fax.
• Saturday Night Net: Statewide net at 8pm on the KEV repeater system. Will check with SERA about going to a higher location if needed — will go over next month.
• Chamber of Commerce: Laura is thinking about doing a table at the Chamber of Commerce event when Dale Earnhardt Jr. comes July 16th. Discussion about possibly becoming a chamber member to be included in their calendar. Motion made to become a chamber member — Amy Elkins paid for it — motion passed.
